Sir Lewis Hamilton has had a long and successful career to date in Formula 1, breaking records galore on his way to seven world championship titles over a career which as of 2021 spans 13 seasons at the pinnacle of motorsports. But the Brit has also had a significant impact off the track, using his global platform to promote causes close to his heart and has frequently spoken of how his role as an activist is just as important to him as his racing career. And while the driver has kept coy around whether this season will be his last in F1, he remains determined that racing will not be his sole legacy, he told Sky Sports in an interview. "I mean, I'm not one to ever really talk about legacy," Hamilton said. "Obviously, I get asked that question a lot. I think over the last few years, whilst racing has been my life, I don't want to just be remembered for that one thing, this is all you can do. "I would hope that I'm able to do something bigger outside and naturally I think what this is great at helping me to create is a platform. I never thought I'd have this platform that I have, or the voice that I'm able to have and use, the impact that I can potentially have. "I just want to be wise and sensible about how I use that because this is a huge responsibility as well."
