Hamilton and Verstappen hit with massive penalties as rain chaos shakes up grid

Interlagos once again threw up a Formula 1 qualifying classic, as thunderstorms caused chaos and major delays on Saturday at the São Paulo Grand Prix. Nevertheless, it was Lando Norris who mastered the conditions for a third Brazilian pole in three years.

Qualifying featured a lengthy stoppage just seconds after getting underway, with conditions being too poor for almost 90 minutes. Qualifying from start-to-finish last almost two-and-a-half hours, a theme which could be repeated on race day with even more rain forecast.

It is grid penalties galore in Brazil! George Russell has a five-place grid penalty, Charles Leclerc a 10-place grid penalty, while Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen both start at the back. All are due to power unit component changes. Sunday is a race not to miss!
