Haas deny 'Ferrari concern' over F1 2027 driver line-up

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu has denied that he has concerns about fielding two Ferrari junior drivers in the team next year.

Oliver Bearman, who has been part of the Ferrari academy for several years, is widely expected to continue in his role as a Haas F1 driver next year.

However, the identity of his team-mate is yet to be confirmed, and it has been rumoured that Esteban Ocon is in danger of losing out on his drive.

RacingNews365 understands that current F2 title protagonist Rafael Camara, who is also a Ferrari junior, is the favourite for the second seat next year.

While this would leave Haas without a driver to truly call their own, Komatsu has no concerns if it were to be the case.

“It doesn't really matter to me at all,” Komatsu told media including RacingNews365.

“We really want two fast drivers because that's the best way to grow this team. 

“It doesn't matter if it's two Ferrari drivers or two Toyota drivers or two McLaren drivers. We know [Leonardo] Fornaroli is a McLaren driver.

“Honestly, it doesn't matter. Whoever is the fastest, that's the best one.”

'Important for motivation to pick form over money'

Haas has endured a challenging F1 season thus far, with zero points scored in the last eight outings.

As it looks to improve going forward, Komatsu highlighted the drivers as a key part of that - and stated the team will only be motivated if it knows the most optimal line-up.

“For everybody, 400 people working here, they need to know we got the best driver choice that we can get hold of, so that these are the best two drivers that getting the best out of the car,” he said.

“Imagine taking somebody half a second off for extra money - that's not going to be very motivating. 

“One position in the championship, that's quite a lot of money.

“I've always said to take driver by performance, and that's what we're doing.”
