Pierre Gasly says he "loves" the 'extreme" nature of the Singapore Grand Prix as Formula 1 gears up for a return after a three-year hiatus. The race at the Marina Bay Street circuit has not been held since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Singapore joining places such as Canada and Japan in returning to the calendar in 2022. With the event usually being one that gets close to the two-hour time limit – owing to the length of the 3.1-mile track – Singapore is also renowned for the bumpy, physical nature of the circuit. There is also added challenge of the humidity, making it one of the toughest tracks on the driver of the entire season. But Gasly, who finished eighth for what was then Toro Rosso back in 2019, says it is a challenge he looks forward to.

"I'll try to rest, get some good sleep and get physically back in shape for for that race because we know it's very extreme conditions," Gasly explained to media, including RacingNews365.com , ahead of the event. "But it's a track I love. Honestly, I love that place. I missed it over the last few years and can't wait to get back there. "If I look at the numbers – maybe it's better not to look at the numbers! – I just go there with an open mind and we'll try our best. "[We'll] prepare ourselves in the best way and hopefully we can be fighting again for the top [positions]." AlphaTauri have struggled in 2022 as they have not found the consistency of other teams, with Gasly limited to just one top five finish in Azerbaijan. Moreover, the AT03 machine seems better suited to lower downforce tracks, with the French driver picking up points in both Belgium and Italy. In those races which demand higher downforce, such as Hungary and the Netherlands, he came home in 12th and 11th respectively.
