Franco Colapinto will visit the F1 stewards after qualifying at Imola following an error during the session.
Colapinto has returned to a race seat this weekend as he steps in at Alpine in place of Jack Doohan for at least the next five races.
However, the Argentine driver was flagged by the FIA after he made his way to the end of the pit lane before he was permitted to do so.
It will likely result in a grid drop for Colapinto as Mercedes received a one-place grid drop for Kimi Antonelli and George Russell in Bahrain earlier this year.
The investigation will not be his main concern, however, as the 21-year-old qualifying session ended early with a crash at the end of Q1.
Colapinto lost control of his Alpine car and speared into the barrier at high speed, eliminating him from the session.
It marked the second major crash of the Q1 outing after Yuki Tsunoda barrel rolled on his own attempt.
