Former F1 driver thoroughly impressed by early Red Bull form

Former F1 driver Alexander Wurz thinks Red Bull and Verstappen look in good shape as the season opener fast approaches.

The Red Bull Racing team look like they have the strongest package heading into the first round of the F1 season something former Williams and McLaren driver Alexander Wurz agrees with. With Max Verstappen topping the afternoon session on day 1 and Sergio Perez topping the morning session on day three, the Red Bull Racing team must be pleased with how they have performed during the preseason test in Bahrain. Wurz who raced in Formula 1 between 1997 and 2007 explains why he feels the Austrian team might spring a surprise at the first round. "The good cars can withstand strong gusts of wind here and do not always slide in all directions. That is a very good sign for Red Bull and Max Verstappen ", Wurz said to Motorsport-Total. "Of course we don't know exactly how much fuel they were driving with and what the plan was for the tires, so it is difficult to put things in perspective, but Red Bull looks good." Wurz also offered an opinion on the struggles endured by the Mercedes team, saying the team will solve their issues. "Mercedes will solve the problems, but the fact is that the lost time is really lost," Wurz explained. "If you drive too little and, for example, do not find time to drive good racing simulations, you will arrive less well prepared for the first Formula 1 Grand Prix." Wurz is also hopeful a third team will be able to join the mix, which should make for an exciting season. "That's good, because if Red Bull can fight with Mercedes, possibly with a third team that knows how to surprise, then that is a very beautiful and exciting prospect," Wurz concluded.
