Former F1 driver Mark Blundell has been disqualified from driving for six months after being caught speeding excessively.
Blundell, who raced for Brabham, Tyrrell, Ligier and McLaren in the early 1990s, scoring three podiums in 61 starts, was caught travelling at 96mph in his Land Rover on a 70mph stretch of road in Northamptonshire on November 30 last year.
The 59-year-old, who won the 1992 Le Mans with Peugeot alongside Derek Warwick and Yannick Dalmas, opted not to attend Northamptonshire Magistrates Court for the hearing.
Represented by his barrister, a guilty plea was entered on Blundell's behalf, leading to the six-month driving ban, and five points added to his driving licence. He was also ordered to pay a total of £1,042 in fines, costs and victim surcharge.
Blundell enjoyed a racing career for two decades, from 1984 to 2003, not only competing in F1 and Le Mans, but also the CART series in the United States.
Since 2004, Blundell has run a sports management company, 2MB, initially alongside close friend Martin Brundle before the latter opted to devote more time to his television career.
