Final Adrian Newey-designed Red Bull gets major update

Red Bull Advanced Technologies has revealed the final design evolution of the much-anticipated RB17 hypercar, the ultimate track-only machine conceived under the guidance of legendary aerodynamicist Adrian Newey.

Although Newey has since moved to Aston Martin, he remains closely involved with the RB17 project as it nears its first testing phase and production preparations in Milton Keynes.

As shared by Top Gear, new for this latest iteration, which is the final design, are distinctive 'hockey-stick' LED front lights that give the car a more defined visual identity, along with redesigned cooling vents and a prominent sailfish-like fin on the engine cover.

Size-wise, the RB17 is marginally smaller overall than earlier prototypes, yet the footprint still mirrors that of a modern Formula 1 car. Practical additions, including side mirrors and a windscreen wiper, underscore its track-focused usability.

The RB17 is the first car to carry the RB17 designation previously skipped in the F1 naming sequence, and it distils two decades of F1 expertise into a bespoke, two-seat carbon-fibre hypercar.

It features a naturally aspirated Cosworth-developed V10 engine that redlines at 15,000 rpm, aided by a small electric motor for smoother delivery and reverse gear.

The combined output exceeds 1,200 hp, with a sub-900 kg kerb weight targeted to deliver Formula 1-like lap times and top speeds beyond 350 kph.

Only 50 RB17s will be built, each bespoke to its owner, and customers will be offered bespoke track-day programmes on iconic circuits worldwide.

Red Bull’s approach emphasises both performance and accessibility for skilled drivers, with Michelin-developed tyres and active suspension helping to tame the immense aerodynamic loads.

As the RB17 moves toward track testing in 2025 and production in 2026, it stands as one of the most radical expressions of Red Bull’s engineering prowess outside of Formula 1.
