Ferrari told to 'urgently' investigate Lewis Hamilton issue: 'Something's gone wrong'

Ferrari has been implored to get to the bottom of why Lewis Hamilton was so slow on the medium Pirelli tyres during the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Bernie Collins believes Ferrari must "urgently" look into why Lewis Hamilton struggled so much during his medium-tyre stint at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The former Aston Martin head of race strategy pointed out that something went "wrong" for the seven-time F1 drivers' champion as he failed to pass the Stake of Nico Hulkenberg.

Having qualified last, in dreadful conditions, on outright pace for the first time in his F1 career, Hamilton ultimately lined up P19 after Yuki Tsunoda started from the pit lane in Sin City.

The 40-year-old made good progress in the early part of the 50-lap race, but once he came in to pit, that initial pace deserted him, and he eventually crossed the line in tenth — before being promoted to eighth after the double disqualification of the McLarens.

"It was always going to be a tough race from P19, let's be honest," Collins said on Sky Sports F1.

"But the Ferrari did look strong in the dry... He actually had a very good first stint on the hard tyre.

"And, they did that strategy: Starting on it, ran a very long stint, looked quite good, attempted to undercut Hulkenberg, who the Ferrari should easily be able to have the pace on, and the medium tyre just went from bad to worse for Lewis.

"The first initial laps on the medium were slow; Hulkenberg protected the undercut, so he's [Hamilton] behind again."

After getting out of his SF-25, Hamilton was crestfallen, labelling 2025 his "worst season ever" and saying he felt "terrible" after the underwhelming result.

Further assessing the situation, Collins added: "And then the final stint on the medium, he's dropping from Hulkenberg.

"So something's gone wrong on that medium stint for Lewis and Ferrari, and that's why he's so defeated, because he's got out of the car, not challenging, having a terrible final few laps.

"So that's his lasting memory of that race. And that is something they need to look at urgently..."
