Ferrari suffer frustration after overcoming 'expectation' fears

Ferrari entered the Monaco Grand Prix fearing the worst, but left bitterly disappointed to miss out on back-to-back victories at the Circuit de Monaco.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur confirmed that the outfit was "frustrated" to miss out on Monaco pole, which, ultimately, cost Charles Leclerc back-to-back victories. The Maranello-based team had been very concerned ahead of travelling to the Circuit de Monaco, with it having held a very low "expectation" level. Low speed corners have been a major problem for the SF-25 in recent events, particularly over one lap. It led to poor Miami and Imola qualifying performances for the Scuderia, leading to its fears ahead of Monaco. However, Ferrari's level of expectation changed considerably following all three practice sessions after Leclerc went quickest in each.  The outfit believed victory was suddenly possible; however, its hopes effectively ended after a lap record from Lando Norris denied Leclerc pole.  Vasseur believes the maximum was achieved from the race, with something unexpected needed to hand Leclerc a second consecutive Monaco win. "It's true that after Imola, the level of expectation was not mega high because we were struggling in Miami and Imola" Vasseur told select media, including RacingNews365 .   "We were struggling a lot in the low speed corners in quali, and the low speed corners in quali are key in Monaco. That means that the level of expectation was not mega coming to Monte-Carlo. "But it's true also that after FP1, FP2, and FP3 the level of expectation was a bit different. And we were a bit frustrated yesterday evening with P2.  "I think today, honestly, we did the job. It was difficult to expect much more starting from P2, except if something happened. But we can't ask much more from Charles and the team today."
