Ferrari is preparing to hand Lewis Hamilton an extended period to prepare for his first full-time season with the team this year.

Hamilton has opted to join the Italian squad following his lengthy stint with Mercedes during which he won six F1 titles.

His debut for Ferrari will come at the Australian Grand Prix - however it will not mark the first time the Briton will step behind the wheel of a Ferrari.

The Italian branch at Motorsport.com reports Hamilton will drive will driver an older Ferrari car at Fiorano on February 20 or 21, weather depending.

Following the outing, the parties will travel to Barcelona in late January to complete another spell of testing.

The testing of previous cars (TPC) regulations have changed for this year, with full-time drivers now limited to a maximum of 1,000 kilometres. This can be spread over the course of four days.

Ferrari's plan means Charles Leclerc can't drive any tests this year in an old car as the maximum allocation is being given entirely to Hamilton as he prepares for his first season with the team.

However, RacingNews365 understands the test week in Barcelona is going to be longer than four days.

It is not so much to do with track time, but more about allowing Hamilton to become acquainted with his new colleagues.

Ferrari is set to unveil its actual 2025 car on February 19 at Fiorano, one day after the F1 75 launch event in London, which will be attended by all 10 teams.
