Ferrari lead the 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours at the four-hour mark of the 92nd running of the prestigious event, with mixed conditions having caused strategic headaches.

It was the #6 Porsche which started the race from pole but immediately dropped to second on the opening lap, with Ferrari having roared to the front.

Ferrari had a one-two after the opening few laps before the first shower of the race separated the safe from the brave! The rain was heavy in parts and led to several switches to the wet tyre; however, some opted against an early pit-stop and continued on slick tyres.

This proved pivotal to the #83 AF Corse Ferrari which leads the race after four hours, which started in 12th but braved the elements on slick tyres. The first shower quickly ended, before nobody pitted for wets during a later shower around the three-hour mark.

The polesitter has dropped to P14, whilst the #50 AF Ferrari Corse has moved into second. The #5 Porsche Penske completes the top three. There has been one crash in the Hypercar category for the #20 BMW M Team WRT but has continued the race in P53 overall.

Other classes

In LMP2, the category is currently being led by the #10 Vector Sport car, which had started the race down in 8th in class.

It boasts a 40-second lead over the #37 Cool Racing car, with the #22 United Autosports car completing the top three. The #14 AO BY TF car which started the class on pole is in sixth.

In LMGT3, there was a huge crash for the #54 Vista AF Corse Ferrari at the Dunlop Chicane. The Ferrari has become the first car to retire from the race.

The lowest class is currently being led by the #59 United Autosports car which started 11th in the category, and is ahead of the #55 Vista AF Corse and the #81 TF Sport car.
