Fernando Alonso has instructed his Aston Martin team that he wants "points" and not "performances" following his latest retirement.
Alonso was on course for a strong points finish in the Italian Grand Prix, running ahead of Gabriel Bortoleto, who finished eighth when he suffered a suspension failure shortly after his pit-stop.
The DNF was Alonso's first since he dropped out of the Monaco GP, running sixth, costing him at least 12 points, which would see him climb up the standings from 12th to ninth if retrospectively applied.
Detailing his bad luck, Alonso felt the team were impacted on their strong days, as he issued an instruction with the team looking over its shoulder at Racing Bulls one point behind in seventh and Stake seven behind.
"We were using the kerb every lap, and only on our car, we had the suspension problem," Alonso told media, including RacingNews365.
"These things always happen when we have a scoring race. We had some races where we were dead last and nothing happened, like at Spa, running one lap behind the leaders.
"But in Monaco, I was P6 and retired with an engine problem, [at Monza], I was P7 and retired with a suspension problem, so there are dozens of points where the luck was not with us.
"It is frustrating that I should have 20-30 more points, but it is the way it is. Unfortunately, I am getting used to it.
"I don't need to have good performances, I need the points, and the performances are always good, I don't remember a bad performance from the team or from my side in 22 seasons.
"[More attention] is on the 2026 project at this point, but it is frustrating every weekend to try and do well, but the luck is not with us."
