Fernando Alonso has triggered an early red flag in qualifying for this weekend's Mexico City Grand Prix.
With 11 minutes left on the clock in the first part of qualifying, the Spaniard received an urgent radio message instructing him to stop the car in the stadium section.
The two-time champion asked why he could not simply return to the pit lane, to which Alonso's race engineer responded by demanding that the car be stopped on the circuit.
Replays showed a puff of smoke coming out of the back of his Aston Martin earlier in the lap, suggesting yet another Honda power unit problem.
Alonso hit his steering wheel in frustration as he came to a halt, particularly as he was expected to progress to the second part of qualifying.
To add to his frustrations, Alonso was quickly noted for "general safety" having not re-fitted the steering wheel to his AMR26. He was later handed a reprimand.
