Gordon Ramsay, the famous chef and reality TV star known for his prolific use of profanity, caused a stir at the inaugural F1 Live event in London last night.
The Scotsman, who is a lover of F1 and has recently struck a partnership deal with the championship, was in attendance at the season launch event, when comedian and host Jack Whitehall asked live on broadcast for his take on the controversial new swearing ban introduced by the FIA.
The contents and potential ramifications of the governing body's contentious stewards' penalty guidelines is already well-trodden ground, with hefty fines and even suspensions and championship points deductions being threatened for drivers who use expletives out for turn.
However, those rules do not apply to Ramsay, who shared his opinion on the strict measures brought in to prevent excessive bad language.
After light-heartedly being warned to "be very careful how you answer" by Whitehall, the chef replied: "Come on Jack, you'll get me into trouble.
"Listen, I think it's a industry language, the fact that these athletes are pushed themselves to the extreme. So sometimes, if it comes out, let them. Let them be real," he said to massive cheers from the crowd.
In contrast to that response, the FIA received boos during the evening when thanked by F1 TV's Laura Winter.
"Let it go," Ramsay continued. "Come on! Risking their life every time they're traveling over 200 miles an hour. So if the shit hits the fan...," he added as Whitehall quickly pulled the microphone away.
"Please! Right, you're not getting asked back next year. Gordon...," the host joking said in a disapproving tone to diffuse the situation, before ending with a dig at the celebrity chef.
"Okay, well it's lovely to see you. And I don't know what you're doing afterwards, but me and Flavio Briatore have a table at Jamie's Italian if you're keen, the pasta is unbelievable."
