F1 feeder series Formula 3 has announced that the top five drivers in the championship will share a €1 million prize fund.
Starting from 2025 onwards, the F3 champion will receive €300,000, the driver in second will be handed €250,000, the driver in third gets €200,000 and those in fourth and fifth will receive €150,000 and €100,000, respectively.
However, the financial prize will only be handed out if a driver is promoted to Formula 2. Failure to do so, will see the prize go to the next driver(s) based on the drivers' standings.
This new prize fund is in addition to the existing Pirelli €300,000 prize which the F3 champion receives.
"The Formula 3 one-million-euro prize fund is an important initiative that will further incentivise drivers and provide them with a very valuable and well-deserved reward for their success in the Championship," said F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali.
"The FIA Formula 3 Championship continues to be a vital part of the pyramid system, which provides the drivers with the essential technical, physical, and mental training to rise through the Championships on their journey to the highest level of our sport.
"We all look forward to the 2026 season and watching the incredible talent on track."
Making the jump from F3 to F2 is a huge financial challenge for several drivers, regardless of their ability.
In introducing the new prize fund, progressing to the final step on the F1 junior ladder should become more doable for F1's stars of the future.
"I am pleased to announce this million-euro fund, which will benefit the five highest-placed Formula 3 drivers, alongside the substantial prize offered by our partner, Pirelli, which goes to the Champion," said F3 CEO, Bruno Michel.
"It is vital to support emerging talent on their road to Formula 1. Formula 3 is a fantastic training ground for these young racers to hone their skills to move up the pyramid, and this additional financial reward will help them to go even further in their efforts towards the pinnacle of motorsport."
