20 years ago today, Renault F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella suffered the ignominy of losing his road driving licence after being caught speeding.
The Italian, who had finished fifth and helped guide Renault to a maiden constructors' title, had his licence taken away after being clocked doing 92mph in a 37mph zone on the outskirts of Rome.
The three-time grand prix claimed he was rushing home after being informed by his babysitter that his son was suffering from a "high fever."
This did not wash with the Carabinieri, who promptly took his licence away.
To make matters worse for Fisichella, just the week before, he had written an article warning young children against taking part in street racing after a 16-year-old was killed in a Rome car crash.
"I was rushing back home because our babysitter had called me and my wife to inform us our son had a high fever," said Fisichella in a statement at the time.
"I apologise and I am ready to pay. I know I made a mistake. My commitment to road safety remains strong."
