When the FIA update document was released before the first free practice session in Canada, an eye-raising element was the inclusion of a new front wing at McLaren.
A new front wing component was not seen during the Spanish Grand Prix, where the rules around flexi-wings were revised.
The front wing remained largely unchanged in Barcelona, aside from additional support from the upper flap to the flap directly below.
As the paddock descended on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, it was championship leaders McLaren who brought the most changes of any team.
The modifications are aimed at improving the management of airflow around the wheels, which is also related to the airflow toward the brake ducts.
The front wing, in particular, has been revised in terms of geometry and should deliver improved aerodynamic performance over a wide range of angles.
This, in turn, should be achieved through a new design of the main elements and an interesting introduction of so-called 'mermaid tails' on the endplate of the wing.
The function of the element is to properly direct the disturbed airflow to the outside of the front wheels through specific vortices.
In parallel with the rear, a revised version of the medium-downforce wing has been adopted.
