Dan Ticktum addresses emotional Formula E victory as seat search continues

Dan Ticktum has addressed his emotional victory in the opening race of Formula E's Tokyo E-Prix, with it providing a major boost to his search for a future in the championship.

Ticktum is currently without a seat for next season due to his contract with Cupra Kiro expiring after next month's London season finale, with an extension yet to be agreed.

The Briton is speaking to several teams in the paddock, although it remains a real unknown whether he will feature on the grid at the start of the Gen4 era.

However, an incredible win in Tokyo on Saturday has likely improved Ticktum's hopes of staying in Formula E, with it being just his second victory in the all-electric series.

Ticktum was one of the first to take Pit Boost and Attack Mode, which saw him cycle through into the race lead. He was later overtaken by Jake Dennis but pounced on the Andretti driver on the final lap after he suffered a brief energy cut.

The celebrations were wild in the Cupra Kiro garage, with Ticktum recognising the significance of the victory at a time when he is fighting for his Formula E future.

Asked if it felt like a career-saving win, Ticktum told RacingNews365: "Look, it certainly helps. Yeah, it does help. I'm obviously in the shop window in front of a few teams that I've been speaking to, and obviously that's very useful. 

"I sort of feel that, at 27 years old, I understand you're only as good as your last race and all the rest of it, but I think I've proved enough in my career not to really be in the position I'm in. I don't want that to sound arrogant, but yeah, it is what it is, and I've had to dig very deep over the last couple of months to get through that and stay positive.

"I'm an emotional chap, so when I don't feel like I'm being treated fairly, or I feel there's a lack of justice, that can affect me quite detrimentally. But I think, with my old age, I've become a bit more used to adversity now. So yeah, I think I've dealt with it very well.

"I'm very, very grateful to my side of the garage and all the engineers and mechanics for everything they've done this season because it's been pretty fucking awful for the most part. We've had a lot of bad luck, some poor strategy decisions, and haven't really picked up the points that we should have. So yeah, I'm very happy to do that for them."
