The session started with Leclerc causing an early yellow flag after going down the Mirebeau escape road, before he, Hamilton and Max Verstappen all took early turns leading, the fastest times being whittled down to a 1:15.060 from Leclerc at the 20-minute mark.
Throughout the running, Verstappen was complaining over the radio that his tyres were "completely dead", with him placing sixth by the time team-mate Hadjar suffered a weird crash at the swimming pool exit, triggering an eight-minute red flag.
By this time, Antonelli had moved to the top of the times on a 1:14.537 on his first lap on new medium tyres, but he could not improve after the resumption of the session.
However, Antonelli was still nearly half-a-second faster than team-mate George Russell, who could only take fifth, but was still ahead of both McLarens.
Moments before Hadjar's crash, Lando Norris managed to recover the McLaren from suffering a similar fate as he took sixth, with Oscar Piastri in eighth, sandwiched by Nico Hulkenberg's Audi.
The session would end with Leclerc going fastest from Hamilton and Verstappen on a 1:13.978 to top his home practice.
Multiple investigations by the stewards were launched for impeding, including Charles Leclerc and Liam Lawson, whilst Lawson was also noted for leaving the pit-lane after crossing a red light, although it appeared he could not stop in time as it changed as he passed by.
