Charles Leclerc reveals major regret after unusual change

Charles Leclerc's run of consecutive pole positions in Baku ended last weekend, in what was an Azerbaijan GP to forget.

Charles Leclerc has revealed his regret at making an unusual change ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The Ferrari driver entered the Baku City Circuit having claimed four consecutive pole positions at the venue, yet decided to completely change his set up approach.

Making the major change at a circuit he had been so strong at significantly disrupted his weekend, with Leclerc having struggled to recover from it.

He crashed out in the opening minutes of Q3 in qualifying at Turn 15, ending any hope of a big result. Finding a rhythm was a challenge for Leclerc, who rues altering the set up he usually runs in Baku.

In the end, the 27-year-old finished in ninth after suffering a power unit issue during the grand prix, which Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has confirmed is being investigated by the Scuderia.

Leclerc already knows exactly why he performed poorly at what is usually one of his strongest circuits, and is intent on not making the same mistake in the future.

Asked if he struggled personally in Baku, Leclerc told select media including RacingNews365: "I did, but I already have the answers as of why.

"And yeah, I did change my approach in terms of setup, and considering how strong I was in the past, I'm not sure what made me think this was a good idea.

"Then I kind of lost the rhythm in qualifying. I went back to where I should be a bit more, feeling better for qualifying.

"But then there was a mistake happening, so I couldn't show that. So all in all, it's been a very messy weekend, and I'll look back into it in order to not do the same mistakes going forward."
