Charles Leclerc has stated Ferrari must execute the final three race weekends “perfectly” in order to reclaim second place in the constructors' championship.

The Italian squad endured a nightmare grand prix in Brazil on Sunday, with Leclerc finding himself eliminated early on.

Leclerc sustained race-ending damage at a safety car restart after getting caught up in a Turn 1 incident between Oscar Piastri and Kimi Antonelli.

Team-mate Lewis Hamilton retired later in the race after struggling with car damage he picked up on the opening lap in a collision with Carlos Sainz.

Having entered the Brazil weekend in the runner-up spot, Ferrari's double DNF saw it drop to fourth in the order ahead of the final three rounds.

“It’s very frustrating, considering we are fighting for second in the constructors’ championship,” Leclerc told media including RacingNews365.

“We are the only ones not finishing the race. It’s going to be very difficult to get that second [place] now.

“It’s very frustrating, it’s the way it is. It’s difficult to swallow.”

Second is now occupied by Mercedes, who holds a 36-point lead over Ferrari, while Red Bull is third - just four points in front of the Maranello-based squad.

But according to Leclerc, anything but perfection will hurt its chances of taking back second place before the end of the year.

“[The next] three weekends need to be perfectly executed in order to get second place in the constructors’.”
