Jenson Button has been hit by team-mate Alex Lynn whilst leading the Qatar 1812km endurance race at the Lusail International Circuit.
The 2009 F1 drivers' champion is competing for Cadillac Hertz Team Jota in the highest class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) this year in the #38 car. Compatriot Lynn is part of the #12 crew.
The incident occurred under safety car conditions, as Button readied himself to resume running from the head of the field at the season-opening event.
He appeared to vault for the restart, only to back off again, a move that caught Lynn off-guard and unawares. There was extensive damage to both Cadillac hyper cars.
The pair immediately peeled off into the pits, relinquishing the lead in the process.
