Max Verstappen's manager Raymond Vermeulen has revealed a comical story that occurred during the Dutchman's early F1 career.
Verstappen was handed three FP1 outings late in 2014 with Toro Rosso ahead of his full-time debut with the team the following year.
His first two sessions came in Japan and USA before his final outing was scheduled for Brazil.
Ahead of the round from Sao Paulo, Verstappen and Vermeulen had no budget left and were forced to cut corners to pay for their room for the weekend.
"We had zero budget, and for that reason we took one hotel room for the three of us in Hotel Transamerica in São Paulo,” Vermeulen told FORMULE 1 Magazine.
“A crib had been arranged for Max, a sort of stretcher.”
While Vermeulen and Verstappen's father Jos went to enjoy a local drink, they irritated the then 17-year-old Max upon returning to the hotel room.
"He was at our foot end and naturally went to bed on time that Thursday, while Jos and I went for a drink,” Vermeulen stated.
“We returned to the room a little later and perhaps made a little too much noise. Max woke up and asked, 'Dad, can we keep it down a bit, because I have to drive tomorrow?'
"How did Jos react? A little along the lines of, 'Don't whine, everything will be fine.' That does show how we did it, we depended on each other. We just had a lot of fun.”
