Bizarre F1 qualifying crash prompts stewards investigation

Nico Hulkenberg will be attending the F1 stewards after qualifying at Spa.

Nico Hulkenberg will be investigated by F1 stewards after Belgian Grand Prix qualifying for a pit-lane 'crash' with Lance Stroll.

As the field was waiting for the green light to go on, signalling the start of Q1, Hulkenberg's Stake car was not in the fast lane as the cars queued up.

Under the race director's notes, if a driver places their front wheel over the white line demarcating the fast lane, they will be adjudged to have entered it and thus have the right of way.

However, as the traffic pulled away in front and Hulkenberg went to pull out, he collided with Lance Stroll's Aston Martin at low-speed.

The result was a broken front wing, which was required to be changed for Hulkenberg, whilst Stroll continued on his way.

Another unsafe release incident was briefly looked into after Ollie Bearman pulled out in front of Fernando Alonso's Aston Martin, but no further action was taken against the Haas driver.
