Alpine take firm stance after Monaco GP podium decision: ‘Unjustly punished’

The Alpine F1 team has released a statement following the ruling over the outcome of the Monaco Grand Prix podium.

In June, Pierre Gasly crossed the line in third place but dropped down the order at the chequered flag after being deemed to have sped in the pit lane during the race.

He was one of several drivers to fall foul of the rule, but as his penalty was not served in the race, Alpine appealed the punishment. The FIA ruled in its favour, with the situation complicated by the positioning of timing loops that measure the average speed.

However, McLaren and Red Bull then opposed the decision, and a hearing was held on August 25 in Paris to settle the matter.

In its decision, the FIA International Court determined that the penalties on Gasly should be reimposed, dropping him back to seventh place and reinstating Isack Hadjar to the podium.

Alpine has questioned the nature of the findings, feeling it was unfairly stripped from the podium.

“The team expresses its disappointment and frustration with the outcome reached by the FIA International Court of Appeal relating to the result of the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix,” read a statement from Alpine.

“While we disagree with the decision, and still fully maintain that Car #10 did not exceed the Pit Lane speed limit at any point during the race, the team acknowledges the decision of the judging panel from the recent hearing in Paris.

“While the result is not what we had hoped for, as we feel that we have been unjustly punished, the team is firmly focused on continuing to improve its performance on track and remains in a close and very competitive Championship fight.

“This outcome will not deter the team’s efforts and motivation in achieving its objectives by the end of the season.”
