Fernando Alonso has voiced frustration at the role of the F1 media and drivers being required to "explain" poor performances.
After a strong first season at Aston Martin in 2023, Alonso's fortunes dipped in '24, taking a best finish of only fifth in Saudi Arabia as he fell from fourth in the drivers' to ninth.
Aston struggled with car development through the season with multiple upgrade packages not delivering the hoped-for boost, with the team going point-less in four of the last six races as it took a lonely fifth in the standings, finishing just 29 points ahead of a late surge from Alpine.
Reflecting on media asking drivers questions about car performance, two-time champion Alonso voiced his ongoing frustration.
"The most frustrating part for me is the media, because, nothing against you, but it is part of the weekend that we try to explain to the fans and to you guys why we are here," he told media including RacingNews365.
"When we have to come through the media, it is a little bit of a surprise that we need to explain ourselves why we are here, because it is not like we were on the podium at the last race and then are out [early].
"We come and approach the weekends knowing our position, accepting our position and are not happy with it, but let's be clear, we cannot be frustrated.
"We just need to learn and to go forward as a team [for 2025], which is realistically, the only moment we have the possibility to get better."
