Nick Cassidy defeated Nyck de Vries in the final qualifying duel to secure pole position for the inaugural Madrid E-Prix after setting a 1m 37.141 in damp conditions.
Jaguar's Antonio Felix da Costa secured third on the grid despite being beaten by de Vries in the semi finals, while Norman Nato starts in fourth.
Championship leader Pascal Wehrlein qualified in sixth, directly ahead of reigning world champion Oliver Rowland in seventh.
Home hero Pepe Marti had to settle for the sixth row, while Zane Maloney once again impressed for Lola.
