Lando Norris set a blistering pace to top a red-flagged sole practice session ahead of the United States Grand Prix.
Norris pumped in a 1:33.294 on the soft tyres towards the end of the session, to climb above Fernando Alonso, Max Verstappen and Nico Hulkenberg, with team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri fifth, 0.564s slower.
However, on a late push lap, Piastri improved to 0.279s slower than Norris, but a late lap from Hulkenberg saw him climb into second place. 0.255s slower than Norris's pace.
Lewis Hamilton was eighth for Ferrari, but crucially, did not set a time on the softest tyres, nor did George Russell for Mercedes in seventh.
Elsewhere, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz both had car troubles and did not get any late soft tyre running heading into Sprint qualifying, with gearbox issues affecting both.
