It was not quite perfection from Max Verstappen despite a crushing weekend performance in the United States GP - but is it enough to earn him full marks in the Austin driver ratings?

Winning both Sprint and race from pole whilst leading every lap, he only missed race fastest lap for the first double grand chelem in F1 history.

But how does his performance stack up against the troubled weekend for our championship leader? Read on below to find out!

The top five

Max Verstappen - 10

The rules are simple, you score a grand chelem, its a 10. But what about doing so in the Sprint, but then missing the fastest lap to deny you in a grand prix? That's not worth docking any marks for. Faultless, incredible, and yes, it is on.

Charles Leclerc - 8.5

Suffered on Friday with the gearbox problem, and the lairy moment in the Sprint which cost him a place to Hamilton, but called it expertly in qualifying, with the second Q3 lap after his spin making his weekend. The decision to start on softs was crucial, and brought him a deserved podium.

Lando Norris - 8

Firmly the better of the two McLarens, but still a step behind Verstappen. Innocent in the Sprint chaos, but should have dispatched Leclerc far quicker in the race. DId well to pass and claw back three more points.

Lewis Hamilton - 8

Exactly the kind of low-profile, anonymous weekend he needed to just bank a solid result and learn about his car. Decisive on Leclerc in the Sprint, but after qualifying behind and starting on the mediums, his race was always run. Should take a lot of confidence

Nico Hulkenberg - 8

Somehow stuck the Stake fourth on the Sprint grid, and was totally blameless for the Turn 1 carnage. 11th for the main race turned into eighth place and solid points. Thoroughly outperformed his team-mate on his best overall weekend showing of the season.

The bottom five

Franco Colapinto - 5

Not much to say, a rather quiet weekend until the needless team orders row at the end with Gasly and the team. When it came down to it, a nice move on Gasly, but should not have happened.

Pierre Gasly - 5

Similar story to his team-mate. Anonymous until the late team orders situation - but did well to finally snap the qualifying defeat streak.

Esteban Ocon - 4

Ocon's season is sliding away, despite Haas upgrades. Blameless for Stroll's rather optimistic lunge in the Sprint, and then going to the hard tyres in the race when a set of four bricks would have provided more grip than the C1s. Qualifying is becoming a worry against Bearman, so must address this.

Gabriel Bortoleto - 4

Struggled all weekend for feeling in the second and third sectors, but put the blame on himself rather than the car. It can firmly be notched up as a 'rookie learning weekend.'

Oscar Piastri - 3

At least two-to-three tenths off Norris all weekend, Piastri is starting to show signs of the pressure he's under leading the championship. His actions at Turn 1 of the Sprint, whilst good in principle was a tad reckless in just deciding to swipe back across the pinch-point, not thinking about the 17 cars behind him.

Qualifying was poor, as was the race. Going to Mexico, he must stop the leak of points to Norris and Verstappen - or else, this championship is going to slip from his fingers.
