Lando Norris topped the timing sheets in the first free practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix, narrowly beating Oscar Piastri.

The McLaren team-mates were two-tenths faster than Charles Leclerc in third, but comfortably clear of the rest of the pack.

Isack Hadjar had a strong session for Racing Bulls, going quicker than Lewis Hamilton, who rounded out the top five in the second Ferrari.

Felipe Drugovich deputised for the injured Fernando Alonso, finishing the session in P16. The Brazilian is, however, not expected to participate in FP2.

Paul Aron, replacing Nico Hulkenberg for a rookie outing at Stake, saw his session end early due to a technical issue on his Sauber C45. He occupied the foot of the timing board in P20.
