Lando Norris topped the timesheets in the only free practice session ahead of this weekend's São Paulo Grand Prix.
The championship leader set a 1m 09.975 on his final flying lap to go 0.023s quicker than team-mate Oscar Piastri, who showed improved pace after his recent struggles.
McLaren had a huge advantage over the rest of the field, with Stake F1's Nico Hulkenberg securing third but over six-tenths adrift.
Fernando Alonso and Gabriel Bortoleto completed the top five, while Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton and Yuki Tsunoda secured the bottom four positions in a huge shock.
