Lando Norris stormed to pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix, setting a lap time of 1:03.971 at the Red Bull Ring.
Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri qualified second and third, respectively, in Spielberg.
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell rounded out the top five for round 11 of the 24-round F1 season. However, the Mercedes driver will be investigated after the session for an unsafe release.
Pierre Gasly spun at the final corner during Q3. It disrupted the preparation of Piastri for his final lap. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen bailed out of his second push lap.
The start of the qualifying hour was delayed by five minutes after multiple crashes, including a red flag, in F2 caused the sprint to not only finish late, but a big final lap shunt left debris strewn across Turn 3.
Yuki Tsunoda suffered another painful qualifying performance, only able to achieve P18. His Q1 time was a quarter of a second slower than Verstappen's, but with the lap being a little over a minute, that is a bigger gap than it first appears.
Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz made it three consecutive Q1 eliminations during the grid-setting session in Styria.
Lewis Hamilton triggered a red flag during Q2, after the titanium skid block beneath his Ferrari started a small grass fire by the edge of the track.
