Lewis Hamilton topped the times with a blistering effort in Las Vegas Grand Prix Free Practice 1, ahead of George Russell.
The Briton clocked a 1:35.001s with the final flying lap of the session on the soft C5 tyre as he pulled 0.396s on Russell having been tied with his team-mate.
The Mercedes had traded times on both the medium and soft tyres throughout, as Lando Norris slotted into third place with title rival Max Verstappen fifth, having reported steering wheel connection issues throughout the session.
