Max Verstappen has started his home grand prix weekend on the front foot, ending the first practice session from Zandvoort on top of the timesheets.
The Dutchman's best lap time was a 1:11.852, placing him almost three-tenths ahead of Fernando Alonso in second place.
One red flag was deployed during the session, with Haas' Nico Hulkenberg, who will remain with the team in 2024, spun into the gravel.
Lewis Hamilton was third for Mercedes, while the second Red Bull of Sergio Perez was fourth.
Williams enjoyed a strong start to the weekend with Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant ending FP1 in fifth and seventh respectively.
Lando Norris and McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri were sixth and eighth, as McLaren aims to continue its pre-summer break form into the second half.
Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon rounded out the top 10.
