Charles Leclerc set the pace during the first free practice session for the French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard.
The Monegasque's best time of 1:33.930 put him 0.091s ahead of title rival Max Verstappen in second place, with Carlos Sainz in third.
George Russell took fourth, ahead of Pierre Gasly and Sergio Perez.
Standing in at Mercedes for Lewis Hamilton during FP1 was Nyck de Vries, who ended the session in ninth spot.
