Yuki Tsunoda has apologised to the Red Bull F1 team following his crash in the second practice session at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Tsunoda clipped the inside wall at the final corner which sent him into the barrier at the exit.
It placed a dent in the Japanese driver's weekend, having shown strong pace prior to the incident.
Tsunoda set the sixth fastest time of the session as he continues to build up speed and confidence at Red Bull following his promotion earlier this month.
Explaining the incident from his perspective, Tsunoda stated: “Just turning too much and clipped the inside wall and had damage.
“After that, just no control. Apologies to the team. The pace was looking good, so it’s a shame.”
Tsunoda scored his first points of the season last time out in Bahrain, crossing the line in 10th place.
As he looks to add a stronger result to his resumé this weekend, Tsunoda acknowledged he is facing unknowns as his long run was cut short by the crash.
“I had a limited time on the long run which I caused by myself, so I can’t really complain. I definitely would have wanted to end [the session] in a nicer way.”
His qualifying effort was four-tenths down on team-mate Max Verstappen lap time as he revealed poor tyre warm up compromised his attempt.
Despite the setback, Tsunoda remains in high spirits ahead of qualifying.
“The confidence level is pretty good, the last soft run was a bit compromised with the [tyre] warm up. But so far, pretty OK,” he said.
