Yuki Tsunoda addresses F1 exit reports amid IndyCar rumours

Yuki Tsunoda has distanced himself from reports that he is exploring a move to IndyCar, leaving Formula 1 behind.

The Japanese driver found himself back on the grid at last weekend's Dutch Grand Prix following an injury to Isack Hadjar, which has resulted in multiple driver changes.

Liam Lawson stepped up to Red Bull to replace the Frenchman, with Tsunoda alongside Arvid Lindblad at sister outfit Racing Bulls in Zandvoort.

It represented Tsunoda's first appearance on the grid since losing his Red Bull seat at the end of the 2025 season and he narrowly missed out on a point-scoring result at Zandvoort.

However, according to reports from American outlet Racer, Tsunoda's management team is exploring a move to IndyCar.

Tsunoda's management has reportedly spoken to almost half of the teams in IndyCar to see what is possible for 2027.

For now, the Japanese star is opting not to address the rumours, insisting that his focus is on F1 but that he will not wait for a seat forever.

"It's not my job to look at that stuff," Tsunoda told select media, including RacingNews365. 

"I completely leave it to my manager, and my job is to just drive fast and that stuff. My mentality is always in Formula 1. My main goal is to always be driving in Formula 1 and have success. That's always there, no matter what.

"But I also don't want to be staying in the garage for two years. I want to drive as well. 

"If there's something potentially happening or I couldn't find a seat for next year, then I'll have to look for other series. But until the moment I hit the track next year, my mentality will always be in Formula 1."
