Why F1 could be set for an overtaking frenzy at Miami

Valtteri Bottas has predicted an inaugural Miami Grand Prix packed with overtaking, thanks to the nature of what he has described as a "positive" new track.

Valtteri Bottas has suggested that F1 fans can expect an exciting inaugural Miami Grand Prix, with the Finn describing the venue as being "really good for overtaking". Formula 1 will return to Florida on 6-8 May following a 63-year hiatus, and the event will also mark the 11th different United States venue the sport has visited, with a 12th set to follow as Las Vegas joins the calendar in 2023. As with all new circuits, drivers will have to rely on their team's simulators to learn the track before touching down stateside. One driver who has already completed his pre-race running is Bottas, and he has been left enthused by what he saw. "I did it last week, some proper running there in the sim, and actually it was nice to see that this seems to be a really good track for overtaking," he explained when speaking to members of the media, including RacingNews365.com . "I think the way the track has been planned, from my side, it looks positive. It should be good racing."

Bottas spies a couple of "really good" overtaking spots

The Miami International Autodrome will send drivers on a 3.3-mile blast around the car park of the Hard Rock Stadium. The track features 19 corners and two lengthy, flat-out sections that are followed by tight corners with heavy braking zones. Bottas is hopeful that this layout can provide some strong chances to make moves, and the Alfa Romeo driver also anticipates that the event as a whole will be one to remember. "Yeah, pretty long straights and a couple of really good overtaking opportunities," Bottas said of the circuit. "Let's see how it is in real life, but to me, on paper, it looks good, and I'm sure as an event it's going to be pretty amazing."
