Who should Verstappen and Alonso pick as their Le Mans team-mate?

So many great names from motorsport to chose from, but who should Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso team up with if they ever do race at Le Mans together?

Max Verstappen is again making noise about competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with fellow F1 driver Fernando Alonso. However, the duo, with a combined six F1 drivers' championships between them, are missing a much-needed third spear to their trident if they are to race in the famed event. It is, nonetheless, unlikely the pair will embark on their endurance endeavour until they end their respective days in Formula 1. The former's current Red Bull deal runs until the end of 2028, but the latter, already 43 years old, will probably be retired from F1 by that point, theoretically freeing him up. But the question remains: who will join them? Verstappen has previously tagged Nyck de Vries as a driver who fits the bill. The 2020-21 Formula E champion has endurance experience and has raced at Le Mans three times. Sebastian Buemi and Kamui Kobayashi, both of whom have won World Endurance Championship (WEC) titles, were names floated by Samuel Coop as options in a recent episode of the RacingNews365.com podcast, as part of a discussion on which F1 drivers would form a fantasy endurance line-up. Like Samuel, host Nick Golding chose Alonso as the second driver to Verstappen, but instead preferred 2015 Le Mans winner Nico Hulkenberg to round out the line-up. Charles Leclerc has voiced his interest in racing at the Circuit de la Sarthe in the past, but a truly left-field option could be Lewis Hamilton. If the seven-time F1 drivers' champion were to team up with Verstappen and Alonso, it would form one of the most decorated and exciting line-ups in Le Mans history, despite their relative lack of endurance experience. Who do you think Verstappen and Alonso should choose to race with them at Le Mans? Let us know by voting below in the latest RacingNews365 poll.
