When can Kimi Antonelli win the 2026 F1 drivers' championship title?
Following the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli holds a 66-point lead over Mercedes team-mate George Russell.
No other driver is within 100 points of the Italian, who is increasingly set to become the youngest F1 world champion and shatter Sebastian Vettel's record of 23 years, 4 months, 11 days by over three years.
Antonelli, who turned 20 in August 2026, has dominated the season, but when can the Mercedes driver become the first Italian to be crowned world champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953?

When can Kimi Antonelli win the title?
After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, there are eight races scheduled to take place in the season, each worth 25 points.
This gives a total of 200 points remaining, which climbs to 208 once the eight points on offer in the Singapore Sprint race are added.
A scenario exists whereby Antonelli could win the title in the United States, which is laid out below.
- Antonelli wins in Bahrain; Russell scores 0 points. The gap extends to 91 points.
- Antonelli wins the Singapore Sprint; Russell scores 0 points. The gap extends to 99 points.
- Antonelli wins in Singapore; Russell scores 0 points. The gap extends to 124 points.
Following Singapore, 150 points will remain in the season, with Antonelli potentially holding a 124-point lead.
It would mean that heading to the United States GP in Austin, Russell would be required to win every grand prix, with Antonelli not scoring another point.
If Russell failed to win in the United States under the points scenario above, Antonelli would be crowned champion regardless of what he did.
If Antonelli is exactly 125 points ahead of Russell after the Austin race, he would win the title on wins countback, as he would hold 10 grand prix victories to Russell on three, which could climb to eight over the final five races.
In terms of points ties, the number of wins is used as the first tie-breaker, and if Antonelli has won in Bahrain and Singapore, Russell cannot catch him in that metric, thus sealing Antonelli's title.
