Max Verstappen cruised to the 2023 title to become a three-time World Champion, courtesy of blitzing his own record for most victories in a season. The Dutchman won 19 of the 22 races last year, whilst Red Bull won 21 in total on their way to the Constructors' Championship.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz was the only non-Red Bull driver to secure a win at the Singapore Grand Prix. It meant Lewis Hamilton endured a second consecutive campaign without a victory, whilst it was Mercedes' first without a win since 2011.

McLaren started 2023 poorly but ended it as one of the strongest teams, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri having both featured on the rostrum on multiple occasions. Fernando Alonso also made a great start to life at Aston Martin, who were much improved compared to 2022.

Behind Red Bull, the racing was relatively close, with both Alpine drivers having also gotten onto the podium. Daniel Ricciardo returned to the grid at AlphaTauri – known now as Visa Cash App RB – after being chosen as Nyck de Vries' replacement after the Dutchman was dropped mid-season.

Staggeringly, all 20 drivers who ended the 2023 season will be on the grid at the Bahrain GP; however, it will be Hamilton's last race at the Bahrain International Circuit for Mercedes. The seven-time World Champion will join Ferrari in 2025.

The quality of racing was criticised last year as was Red Bull's dominance, which resulted in predictable races.
