F1's new sprint qualifying format explained

The FIA Formula 1 Commission unanimously approved the introduction of sprint qualifying races on Saturdays at three grand prix in the 2021 season.

It's official. Formula 1 will introduce sprint qualifying races at three grand prix in the 2021 season, including two European races and one non-European event yet to be announced.

The proposals are aimed at making the race weekend more engaging for fans and giving an opportunity for more wheel-to-wheel action on track, but how exactly will it all work? And what happens to the rest of the weekend with the new initiatives?
