Sebastian Vettel thinks the budget cap is one of the main reasons why Aston Martin is struggling to progress further up the field. While the four-time world champion acknowledges that teams will struggle to go from last to challenging the front runners during a season, he thinks the budget cap has made it harder to catch up. "It's the same old game nothing has changed. It's been like this for as long as I can remember," he told media, including RacingNews365.com . "I've never seen a team starting last in the beginning of the season and all of a sudden being in the front at the end of the season, so you don't catch up. "Probably this is the hardest year to catch up because you can't spend money." Formula 1's financial regulations increased by 3.1% earlier this year to fight the rise on inflation, giving teams an extra $1.2 million on top of the regulated $140 million.
Aston Martin "cannot plan every last penny" on budget cap, says Krack
Aston Martin Team Principal Mick Krack thinks the next couple of races in Singapore and Japan could be expensive for teams, as they look to stay within the budget cap limits imposed this year. While Aston Martin has so far not incurred any significant on-track accidents which might put them close to the limit, Krack says the team "cannot plan to the last penny" using due to unexpected accidental damage that might occur. He added: "You cannot you cannot plan to the last penny because you always need to leave a little buffer for accident damage. "We are very fortunate that we did not have much, but we have Singapore and Suzuka to come and these are always races where it can be potentially expensive. "So we are we are okay, but not comfortable." The team is currently 9th in the Constructors' Standings having amassed 25 points so far - just eight points behind Alpha Tauri.
