Verstappen 'very happy' to have Ricciardo back at Red Bull

After previously being teammates at Red Bull between 2016 and 2018, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo will again be working together at the squad in 2023 following Ricciardo's return as a reserve driver.

Max Verstappen has welcomed Daniel Ricciardo's return to Red Bull following their previous experience of working together as teammates. Ricciardo raced for the Milton Keynes-based squad between 2014 and 2018, with Verstappen joining him at the team from 2016 onwards. Now the pair will once again work together in a slightly different capacity after Ricciardo opted to return to the outfit as a reserve driver for 2023, while Verstappen and Sergio Perez form the main line-up. Verstappen believes that having Ricciardo at Red Bull again will be a positive factor for himself and the whole team.

Verstappen happy to have Ricciardo at Red Bull

When asked how Ricciardo could benefit the team beyond doing simulator work, Verstappen told media including RacingNews365.com : "I think his smile, his attitude [are beneficial]. "He's always been a professional and a super nice guy to work with as well, as a teammate from my side but I think also for the whole team. "Also, back at the factory, the people working at the simulator rely on his experience. He's raced in Formula 1 for a very long time, he's a race winner, so we're very happy to have him on board, that's for sure." Ricciardo's return to Red Bull follows a difficult two-year spell with McLaren. Prior to that, the Australian raced for Renault in 2019 and 2020.
