Verstappen tight-lipped on Red Bull upgrade hype: 'Marko got excited'

Max Verstappen has attempted to temper expectations about Red Bull's upgrades, which are being brought to the Spanish Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen has played down the significance of Red Bull's rumoured car developments, despite promising comments from Helmut Marko ahead of the Formula 1 weekend. With Ferrari, Mercedes and Aston Martin bringing extensive upgrades over recent races in a bid to catch the championship leaders, Red Bull have mostly resorted to bringing circuit-specific upgrades to events. When discussing the incidents which exposed the underside of Red Bull's floor in Monaco , Red Bull's Motorsport Advisor told OE24 that the team would "try something new" in Barcelona.

The comments prompted speculation that Red Bull could make extensive upgrades to the already-dominant RB19. Speaking ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, Verstappen was asked how Red Bull will be 'trying something different' this weekend. "I think Helmut got a bit excited! I don't know, we'll just be doing our normal programme and nothing crazy," Verstappen responded. When asked if the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya would suit the RB19, Verstappen responded: "It should do. "But of course need to find a good balance. I think when we have a good balance in the car, then we can have a good weekend."
