Verstappen out to change his fortunes in Monaco

While Max Verstappen has achieved much success despite his young age, the streets of Monte Carlo haven't been kind to him so far in his F1 career. Having made a strong start to the 2021 F1 season, the Dutchman is looking to change that.

While his mind is certainly focused on the championship battle with Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen has some clear goals when it comes to this weekend's F1 Monaco Grand Prix. Although the Dutchman has achieved much success despite his young age, there is one prize he is still searching for: a podium finish at Monaco . It's something Verstappen is looking to change when F1 takes to the streets of Monte Carlo this on Sunday. "The Monaco Grand Prix is always very special, it’s very different to other tracks, the circuit is very narrow but also amazing to drive over one lap in qualifying," Verstappen said ahead of the race. "You can really feel when you have got it all hooked up and the lap is going to be a good one - that makes you smile. "I’ve never been on the podium in Monaco so I would like to change that! We just need to have a clean weekend, I think that is very important. We’ll see if we are fast or not but so far in qualifying we have been quite close so I just hope it’s going to be the same in Monaco." The tight streets of Monte Carlo leave no margin for error, and Verstappen knows he will have to be at his best in qualifying if he stands any chance of a good result in Sunday's race. "I know very well that there is no margin for error in Monaco, we just have to make sure we nail it on Saturday," Verstappen laughingly added. "Of course then on Sunday it is usually straight forward as overtaking is so difficult but a lot of things can happen. "We need to be at our best now on Saturday and Sunday to make sure we are on the top step of the podium."
