Lando Norris believes Max Verstappen knows “deep down” he was in the wrong during the Mexico City Grand Prix.

Verstappen was issued two 10-second time penalties on Sunday after forcing Norris wide twice in four corners as they battled for position.

The duo are currently locked in a title fight with four races remaining, with Verstappen holding a steady advantage of 47 points.

Norris stated he has not spoken to Verstappen since the race at Mexico City - but believes the Dutchman knows his driving tactics were unlawful.

“No, we’ve not spoken,” Norris told media including RacingNews365. “I don't think we need to.

“I've got nothing to say. I still have a lot of respect for Max and everything he does.

“Not respect for what he did last weekend, but respect for him as a person and also what he's achieved.

“But it's not for me to speak to him. I'm not his teacher. I'm not his mentor or anything like that.

“Max knows what he has to do. He knows that he did wrong, deep down he does. It’s up to him to change.”

Norris hoping for fair Brazil fight

Norris enters the weekend in Brazil looking to take a further chunk out of Verstappen's championship lead.

Should they go wheel-to-wheel once again, Norris is expecting Verstappen to have a more measured approach.

“The stewards did a good job [in Mexico],” he said. “They have a very difficult job, but if they've done a good job, I think 99 per cent of people who watch F1 and know F1 agree with that.

“We're happy from our side - I stayed out of trouble, and I did my job also.

“Every weekend is a new weekend. I don't know what to expect this weekend. I expect a cleaner battle than what we had, but it’s not up to me.

“I don't think the rules, I don't decide the penalties. I just drive. The stewards did the race, and they did a good job.”
