Max Verstappen has confirmed that Red Bull's controversial rotating rear wing will be back on the RB22 for the Hungarian Grand Prix, after the team's much-discussed decision to remove it last weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.
The Milton Keynes-based squad initially introduced the development in Miami, and it proved immediately effective.
Arriving soon after Ferrari's "Macarena" rear wing, Red Bull's own take on the upside-down approach saw a larger gap between the upper elements than the Scuderia's, but it soon became problematic for the six-time constructors' champions.
At the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone, respectively, Verstappen spun off when the airflow failed to reattach in time after the upper flags closed, meaning he did not have the necessary level of downforce for cornering.
Although prompted by slightly different catalysts, both the crash during qualifying in Austria and his incident at the British Grand Prix led to the Laurent Mekies-led team taking decisive action ahead of the round in Belgium.
An investigation followed, and Red Bull is now confident that the reworked rear wing will be usable at the Hungaroring. Technical director Pierre Waché had already hinted that the wing would return for Budapest, and Verstappen has now confirmed as much.
Speaking to Viaplay, the four-time F1 drivers' champion acknowledged the work carried out by the team in the intervening weeks.
"We assume that it has been resolved, but I obviously don't know that," he said. "They have carried out multiple tests and run further simulations. Hopefully it closes properly now. That is the goal."
The Dutchman pointed to Red Bull's ability to replicate the issue in a controlled environment as an encouraging sign.
"Fortunately, they were also able to simulate it," the 28-year-old added. "It is already very good that you can reproduce the problem. Now I just hope it has been fixed, because you obviously don't want that here either."
When asked directly whether the wing had been re-fitted to the RB22, Verstappen's answer was an unambiguous "Yes."
