Verstappen and Alonso lead list of most improved drivers compared to 2022

The Aston Martin driver has capitalised the most on his form compared to 2022, while Max Verstappen has earned more points through finishing more races.

Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso lead the list of drivers that have improved on their points scored in 2023 compared to 2022. The Aston Martin driver has achieved three podiums with the team in the first three races so far, capitalising on the poor form from Ferrari and Mercedes. This turn in fortunes has enabled Alonso to score 43 more points compared to the first three races with Alpine last year, putting him second behind Verstappen for most improved. The Red Bull driver has finished more races, after retiring at both the Bahrain and Australian rounds with reliability problems in 2022. Although he has still suffered from reliability issues at Saudi Arabia which put him down to P15 on the grid for the race, he recovered to P2 and took the fastest lap point away from teammate Sergio Perez on the final lap to prevent him taking the championship lead. After Ferrari suffered the worst start to a season since 2009, unsurprisingly Charles Leclerc is last on the list with a minus difference of 65 points having only picked up six points for his fifth place at the Saudi Arabian GP. Carlos Sainz will still score less points compared to 2022 regardless of whether Ferrari successfully overturn his penalty, that put him from P4 to P12 at the end of the Australian GP. George Russell also has less points compared to 2022, likely owing to his recent DNF at the race in Melbourne. This enables teammate Lewis Hamilton to surge ahead of him having improved his points tally by 10.
